The singer has been talking to people with a voice generator app that dictates what she types into it so she can rest her own vocal cords following microsurgery.
A source told The Sun: "She's been using the speaking app to buy coffee at Starbucks and to order cabs.
"It is far easier to communicate using it rather than writing everything down on paper and showing people."
The 23-year-old is still in Boston recovering from the operation, which aimed to stop bleeding resulting from a benign polyp.
Following the hospital visit, Adele reassured her fans that she is "relaxed and very positive" about the procedure and its results.
Reports surfaced claiming the songstress was aiming to recover in time for an appearance on the X Factor final on December 11, but her spokesperson has since denied the claims.
Adele's new live concert DVD Live At The Royal Albert Hall was released earlier this week.
