The rapper, who was refused bail earlier this month after being charged on account of two murders, was rumoured to have broken free from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre along with seven other prisoners.
Overnight reports said that the star and his inmates held prison guards hostage at gunpoint to make their escape after Kartel apparently confirmed his freedom by retweeting a message on Twitter which read: "My boy @Vybz_Kartel is a freeeeeeee brudddahhhhhh (sic)."
Further reports had indicated that the Force Commissioner listed Kartel and his fellow escapees as 'Jamaica's most-wanted criminals'.
However, assistant commissioner of police Les Green has told the Jamaica Observer: "I know nothing about that. If that had taken place I would certainly have known."
He added: "It may be an attempt by his cronies to keep him in the news but they don't need to spread rumours to do that because he will be in the news for quite some time."
The Jamaican singer has been in jail since October 1 after being charged with the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams in August and Gregory Park in July.
He also faces conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana charges.
Kartel has worked on a number of collaborations and remixes with artists including Eminem, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Akon and Lil Wayne.
