The band release their dubstep-inspired tenth studio album The Path Of Totality on Monday (December 5). The record features collaborations with dubstep artists Skrillex, Noisia, Downlink and Excision.
Frontman Jonathan Davis said that the band have never "fit in" with other metal acts, and have had to deal with much derision as a result.
"I always felt Korn was the black sheep of the metal community because we didn't fit in anywhere," he told Kerrang. "When I did the first record I was inventing a new genre of music then. It's the same s**t now. I haven't been this excited in years."
He added that he preferred to try something new rather than releasing the same sound as before, saying: "I'm an artist. I've been in this game for so long that I'm in it to be challenged and inspired. I'm in it to make art and I want to make different art.
"Do I miss those old days? Oh yeah, man. I want to get f**ked up. I want to snort coke and f**k bitches and do everything. But I can't now, I've got a family and those drugs would kill me."
Davis had previously said that many of Korn's fans will "hate" their new album.
