Spiritualized have unveiled details for their upcoming seventh studio album Sweet Heart Sweet Light.

The album will be their first since 2008's Songs in A&E, and will be released on March 19, 2012.

Sweet Heart Sweet Light was recorded over two years in Wales, Los Angeles and Reykjavik, before being mixed for a year in bandleader J. Spaceman's home.

The musician - real name Jason Pierce - said of the album: "When you make a record, it has to be the single most important thing in your world. This time around, I wanted to do something that encompassed all I love in rock 'n' roll music.

"It's got everything from Brötzmann and Berry right through to Dennis and Brian Wilson. I'm obsessed with music and the way you put it together and I don't believe there are any rules."

Spiritualized have also added more dates to their upcoming tour in March. They will now play at Nottingham's Rescue Rooms on March 16, Portsmouth's Wedgewood Rooms on March 17 and London's Hackney Empire on March 19.

The band recently completed a full tour of the UK, including a gig at the Royal Albert Hall in October.
