Trent Reznor hints at Nine Inch Nails material in 2012

Trent Reznor has hinted that he will work on a new Nine Inch Nails project in 2012.

The musician put work with the band on an indefinite hiatus in 2009, and has since launched his new band How to Destroy Angels, while also scoring the soundtracks to The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with Atticus Ross.

However, he has now revealed that he intends to spend a "good portion" of 2012 dedicated to Nine Inch Nails material of some kind.

Talking about his other projects, he told BBC Radio 1: "I need to commit to doing something different, and that doesn't mean I'm not going to return to that [Nine Inch Nails] at some point.

"But I find myself pushed and pulled back into the same routine of album, tour, album, tour, album, tour, while a list of things I'd like to try and do in life sits untouched on the table."

Asked if he was going to do something with Nine Inch Nails, he said: "For sure. I plan on spending a good portion of this year coming up writing with that in mind. Let's see what happens."

Trent Reznor unveiled details of his Dragon Tattoo soundtrack with Ross last week, which contains 39 tracks and is over three hours in length.

Speaking about working on the David Fincher movie remake starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, he said: "I started thinking, 'Finally! Now there's serial killers, tension, anal rapings and stuff like that!'

"But there was an experimentation with familiar - almost orchestral-sounding things but treated in an unusual way. This isn't a soundtrack that's filled with Star Wars-esque theme songs."
