The rapper explained that he has made up with the pop act after claiming they looked like "extras from Hollyoaks" on Twitter earlier this year, while The Wanted responded by comparing him to "Marlon from Emmerdale".
However, Example - real name Elliot Gleave - has worked with the band on a new track, which is expected to feature on an expanded version of their recent Battleground album.
He told the Daily Record: "I wrote a song for them called 'Chasing The Sun' and it's great. They went into the studio yesterday and Max even cryptically tweeted that it was a tune.
"I didn't go into the studio with them. I just wrote the song and their label expressed an interest about taking it on."
Example continued: "I thought a few people might want it at first, including Enrique Iglesias and Kylie Minogue because both have asked me to write songs for them.
"But as soon as someone mentioned The Wanted, I thought it was right. It's all about how they go after the sunshine and the message is partying and fun, free living, let's be young forever."
Speaking about their reformed friendship, he added: "I have met them loads of times. They are good lads and I never once criticised their songs. I think they have good pop songs."
Example's 'Midnight Run' will be the third single to be lifted from his Playing In The Shadows album, which is out now.
