Perry matched Michael Jackson's chart record in the US after achieving five number one singles from her Teenage Dream album.

Earlier this week, she matched George Michael's record of having six top five singles from one album, after her latest cut 'The One That Got Away' moved up to four on the chart.

The star has also played 124 dates across the world as part of her sold-out 'California Dreams' tour, which started back in January.

Speaking about her win, Perry told MTV: "I've had a fantastic year, a great tour and a great run, and you guys have been so a part of it and such a big reason why. I really appreciate it."

Perry recently admitted that she plans to take some time off before going into the recording studio to writer her third album.
