Florence Welch: Florence + the Machine's Ceremonials shows influences

Florence + The Machine
Florence + the Machine star Florence Welch has explained that the band's latest LP Ceremonials was influenced by a variety of music genres.

Welch explained in an interview with The AP that she wanted her sophomore album to bring together her love of Kate Bush, Jay-Z and Nirvana.

"There's a real sense of people being into loads of different stuff at once. I think you kind of get that from this record, the fact that I've been into so much different stuff," the singer said. "Style-wise, it touches on so many different things."

She also commented: "I wanted to make a sound that was cohesive, that was a whole, rather than a collection of songs that sounded quite separate. I wanted a sound that floated through the whole album."

Ceremonials has been an international smash, topping the UK pop chart and reaching number six in the US.

Earlier this month, Welch admitted that she is freaked out by Florence + the Machine's worldwide success.
