BBC Radio 1 has announced that its specialist DJs will take over the daytime schedule for the first week of January 2012.

Between January 2 and January 6, Zane Lowe will host a special breakfast show between 7am and 10am, Annie Mac will take on mid-mornings, Huw Stephens afternoons, and Nick Grimshaw will take over during drivetime.

Lowe will announce the winner of the BBC Sound of 2012 list on his January 6 show, counting down the most-voted acts throughout the week.

BBC Radio 1 also confirmed the return of its International Radio 1 documentary series in which its DJs investigate various music scenes from around the world. The new season sees Pete Tong visit Las Vegas, Jaymo & Andy George in Milan, and Gilles Peterson take a trip to Tokyo.

Earlier this month, the station's late-night music schedule for 2012 was announced, confirming that long-running DJs Judge Jules and Gilles Peterson will present their final shows early next year. Skream & Benga, Toddla T, Charlie Sloth and Friction will present new programmes on the network.

BBC Radio 1 will announce full details of its International Radio 1 series and a new BBC Introducing Masterclass early next year.
