The singer's Calvin Harris-assisted hit has out-performed two of her previous offerings - 'Umbrella' and her Eminem duet 'Love the Way You Lie' - both of which spent seven weeks at number one.
'We Found Love' is also the longest-leading single on the Billboard chart this year, surpassing the seven-week run of Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep'. Ke$ha's 'TiK ToK' was the last song to enjoy a longer stay at the top, managing nine weeks in January last year.
LMFAO's 'Sexy and I Know It' claims second place for the seventh week running, while Bruno Mars' 'It Will Rain' comes third for a fourth week. Flo Rida's 'Good Feeling' rises one place to number four, and Katy Perry's 'The One That Got Away' rounds off the top five.
Jay-Z and Kanye West's 'Ni**as in Paris' takes sixth place for a second week, with Adele's former chart-topper 'Someone Like You' in seventh. David Guetta's 'Without You' swaps places with Maroon 5's former four-week leader 'Moves Like Jagger' to take ninth, and T-Pain's '5 O'Clock' completes the top ten.
Further down the chart, Adele vaults 21 to 13 with 'Set Fire to the Rain', Jessie J advances 38 to 28 with 'Domino', and Ke$ha's 'Sleazy Remix 2.0' - featuring Lil Wayne, Andre 300, T.I. and Wiz Khalifa - re-enters at 37.
