The singer and music industry veteran will be honoured at the third annual Essence Black Women in Music night on February 8.
The former Destiny's Child star will perform at the invitation-only event in Los Angeles along with special guest Eve.
Speaking about Rowland's win, Essence editor-in-chief Constance CR White commented: "[Rowland's] talent, drive and remarkable creative force show what it truly means to be a young powerhouse in an ever-changing industry."
The acknowledgment comes days before Rowland will compete for the 'Best Rap/Sung Collaboration' accolade at this year's Grammy Awards.
Previous artists to have been celebrated at the annual Essence Black Women in Music event include Mary J Blige and Janelle Monae.
