The singer's second record 21 has now matched the success of 1998's Titanic original soundtrack, which also spent 16 weeks at the top.
The multi-million-selling set remained at number one with sales of 104,000 over the past week, reports Billboard.
21 is now one of five albums that have spent 16 weeks at the top in the US. As well as Titanic, The Bodyguard's soundtrack has achieved the feat.
Billy Ray Cyrus's Some Gave It All and Garth Brooks's Ropin' the Wind are the other two albums to have matched the chart milestone.
Adele has been confirmed for performances at next month's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and the Brit Awards in London.
