Matt Corby is said to be "ecstatic" at his recent placing in the Triple J 'Hottest 100' chart.
The 21-year-old Australian musician - who has undergone an image change since coming second to Natalie Gauci in Australian Idol in 2007 - reportedly attended a house party in Tamarama on Australia Day (January 26) while he waited to see if his single 'Brother' had made the prestigious music list.
One party-goer told The Daily Telegraph that Corby was "nervous and quieter than usual" while awaiting the results, but then "everyone [at the party] just went nuts" when it was announced that he had come third in the chart for the best song of the year.
The onlooker added: "There was screaming and chanting - Matt was ecstatic."
Also attending the party were Celebrity Apprentice contestant Nathan Joliffe and swimwear model Lara Bingle.
Gotye topped the Triple J 'Hottest 100' countdown with his hit single 'Somebody That I Used To Know'.
Other artists featured in the top ten included The Black Keys with 'Lonely Boy', Boy & Bear for 'Feeding Line' and The Jezabels with 'Endless Summer'.
