Madonna 'didn't plan to roll around in wedding dress during MTV show'

Madonna has revealed that she didn't mean to roll around on the stage during her 1984 performance at the MTV VMAs.

The singer admitted that a costume malfunction caused her to get down on the floor during her rendition of 'Like A Virgin', which she sang in a wedding dress.

Talking on the Tonight with Jay Leno Show, Madonna explained: "I was standing on top of a wedding cake - as one does - and I walked down these steps and I lost my shoe. I lost my white stiletto.

"I thought, 'Oh my God - how am I going to get that? It's over there and I'm on TV'. So I thought, 'I'll pretend I meant to do this', and I dove on to the floor.



"I rolled around and reached for the shoe and as I did the dress went up. Then the underpants were showing. I didn't mean to!"

Madonna later recreated the performance with Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott at the 2003 MTV VMAs.

The performer is currently preparing to release her 12th studio album MDNA in the UK on March 26 and the US on March 27.

The new collection's lead single 'Give Me All Your Luvin' will be available to download from February 3.
