The pop icon explained that she selected the pair for the lead single from her MDNA album due to their "independence and spirit".
"I'm a fan of their music but also I like their independence, their spirit," she told Anderson Cooper. "They're cheeky and unique and they have individual voices.
"And they're not conventional popstars and I really admire them both... I love both of them actually."

Madonna also confessed to locking lips with Minaj while shooting the song's video.
"It was her birthday and it was actually the end of one of those long days of shooting and we were all giving a birthday toast to her," she recalled. "After a few sips of champagne I kissed her, yes."
Artwork and a teaser clip for 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' were unveiled on Monday (January 30) ahead of the song's premiere on American Idol tomorrow (February 2).
The track will be released on Friday (February 3), the same day as a deluxe edition of MDNA becomes temporarily available for pre-order.
Madonna's 12th studio album will be officially released on March 26.
Her full Anderson interview will air tomorrow (February 2).
