The Foo Fighters have said that music does not have to sound "perfect" during an acceptance speech at the 54th Grammy Awards.

The band took the stage after winning the accolade for 'Best Rock Performance' for their song 'Walk'. Guitarist Dave Grohl described the award as an honour, adding that the band's latest album Wasting Light was recorded in a garage.

"This is a great honour because this record was a special record for our band," Grohl told the audience. "We made this one in our garage.

"To me this award means a lot, because it shows that the human element of making music is what's most important," he continued. "It's not about being perfect. It's not about sounding absolutely correct."

Foo Fighters won five awards from six nominations. Speaking before the ceremony, Grohl said that he was honoured to be competing against Adele, who ultimately won all six awards for which she was nominated.

Foo Fighters earned four of their five awards in the ceremony's pre-telecast broadcast.
