Arctic Monkeys snatch Mercury award
The Arctic Monkeys have won the highly coveted Mercury Prize for best British album of the year, for their record Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I Am Not.

Rising to fame after establishing a strong internet fanbase, the Sheffield band were hotly tipped to take the award, despite the tendency for less commercially successful bands to win.

According to Reuters, on accepting the £20,000 award singer Alex Turner stated: "It's good tunes - that's what we try to do."
