One Direction have claimed the highest debut for a UK pop group on the US chart since the Spice Girls.
The boyband's debut single 'What Makes You Beautiful' reached number 28 on the Hot 100 during its first week on sale, making it the highest from a UK pop group in the last 15 years.

The last group to chart higher with their debut single during their first week was the Spice Girls with 'Wannabe', which landed at number 11 on the Hot 100 in January 1997, reports Billboard.
One Direction sold 132,000 downloads of 'What Makes You Beautiful' over the past week and landed at number 12 on the Digital Songs chart.
The high chart placing for One Direction comes a week before 'What Makes You Beautiful' goes for airplay on pop radio, which is expected to help the track move up the Hot 100 chart.
The former X Factor finalists will then release their debut album Up All Night in the US on March 13.
Simon Cowell recently suggested that the Stateside success of One Direction could encourage more groups to audition for the second season of The X Factor USA.
