The bands will top the bill at this year's event, which takes place in Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire on August 18 and 19.
Other acts performing at the festival include Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Snow Patrol, Tinie Tempah and Example.
The weekend will also feature sets from the newly-reformed Happy Mondays, David Guetta, Professor Green, Emeli Sandé, Rizzle Kicks, Maverick Sabre, Keane, Madness and Friendly Fires.
Olly Murs, James Morrison, Tom Jones, Noah and the Whale, The Enemy, The Proclaimers and The Stranglers complete the lineup.
"We're really delighted with the lineup this year," festival director Simon Moran said. "We have a great mix of artists topping a bill that will see the welcome return to live performance of Manchester's finest export [The Stone Roses], along with some of the biggest acts in the music industry.
"The mix of established and exciting breakthrough acts promises to give festival goers a cracking weekend."
Murs said of his repeat appearance: "Coming back to play at V Festival for a second year is fantastic! I've been going to the festival as a punter for years, so performing there is always going to be special - especially on that main stage.
"I'm bringing my full ten-piece band with me this year, it's going to be immense - I can't wait."
Tickets go on sale from Friday, March 2 at 10am. All official outlets are detailed on vfestival.com.
