Smiths reunion backed by John Prescott: 'Labour will end coalition'

John Prescott has vowed that the Labour Party will help The Smiths to reform.

Guitarist Johnny Marr recently told fans that the '80s band will reunite if the current coalition government steps down.



Labour's former Deputy Leader Lord Prescott tweeted to Marr: "Hello Johnny. Just to say we'll work really hard on that reunion! #pleasepleaseletmegetwhatiwant"

Prescott then added: "Please reform," followed by the hashtag, "#cosheavenknowsweremiserablenow".

Songwriter Marr said at the NME Awards earlier this week: "We won't be reforming this week. Maybe if the government stepped down. If this government stepped down, I'll reform the band.

"How's that? That's a fair trade, isn't it? I think the country would be better off, don't you? I'll do it if the coalition steps down."

The Smiths were handed the 'Best Re-issue' prize at Wednesday's NME Awards for their Complete Re-issues series.

Lead singer Morrissey has consistently denied Smiths reunion rumours in the past.
