While recording the show, the Daily Star quotes Richie as saying: "I've only ever sung this with four women, and I thought Rebecca would be the ideal voice to do it for the fifth time."
With past collaborators including Diana Ross and Shania Twain, Richie added: "There's a lot to live up to, but I know she'll be great."
This Is Lionel Richie is expected to be broadcast in April on ITV1 and will support Richie's latest album Tuskegee, which is out now.
Meanwhile, Ferguson has been nominated for the 'Brink-of-Fame: Music Artist' gong at the NewNowNext Awards in the US, which aims to highlight the biggest emerging starts in American pop culture.
