Hamish Rosser, departed the Australian alternative rock band after playing with them for 10 years, because they decided to revert back to their original three-piece setup.
Rosser told The Daily Telegraph that he cannot wait to join Andrew Stockdale's rock outfit, saying: "I'm stoked. These songs are fun to play - they're right up my alley because it's my style of music, because heavy rock is where I come from."
The musician will make his debut with Wolfmother tomorrow night (March 17), as they are the opening act for Lenny Kravitz's Australian tour.
The band are then scheduled to head to Europe to play at various summer festivals including Sonisphere in the UK, but Rosser admitted that the dates may clash with the birth of his first child with wife Kristy Ryan.
"It will be touch and go to get back in time," he said.
