Gossip have revealed that their new album is more mature than their previous records.

The band will release A Joyful Noise on May 14, which will be headed by their new single 'Perfect World'.

Speaking about working on the material, singer Beth Ditto told BBC Newsbeat: "We made it between London and Portland. The weather was the same. We didn't know where we were.

"It's been such a long time since we made a record in the place where we lived. It was great to just roll out of bed."

Talking about what fans can expect from the album, Ditto added: "It sounds grown-up and sad. I love sad songs. They say so much. I love country music but even the happy songs sound really sad."

Gossip announced a one-off London show at XOYO on May 15 in support of A Joyful Noise.

The record has been co-produced by Xenomania's Brian Higgins and Mark Ronson.
