'Boyfriend' has been produced by Mike Posner, who has previously collaborated with artists including Bruno Mars, Lil Wayne and Cher Lloyd.
The track features a more mature sound for the 18-year-old, featuring a hip-hop backing track, Justin Timberlake-style vocals and spoken word elements.
Lyrics include: "Tell me what you like, dear/ Tell me what you don't/ I could be your Buzz Lightyear/ Fly across the globe."
Producer Mason Levy, who also worked on the song, told MTV News: "This record is different in a very good way. Definitely edgier, it's more grown-up, it's more developed and it's sexier. It's just, like, really dope. It's gonna definitely surprise people. People aren't really expecting that. They're going to like it."
Justin Bieber recently appeared bloodied in a new boxing-themed photoshoot.
