The Pearl Jam frontman was due to start a run of Las Vegas gigs on May 10, but they have been cancelled because of temporary nerve damage to his right arm as a result of a back injury.
The Las Vegas gigs will be rescheduled for the autumn, while his performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has been cancelled altogether.
"After having worked aggressively with doctors and physical therapists for the last eight weeks to repair the damage, the intensity of the injury and time needed to heal has made it impossible to play the shows as scheduled," Pearl Jam's manager Kelly Curtis said in a statement.
"There was hope up until the last minute that the treatments would be successful."
Vedder will still be able to headline this year's Isle of Wight Festival with Pearl Jam on June 23.
He will also embark on his first UK solo tour from July, taking in shows in Manchester and London.
