The singer explained that his recent neck injury has completely changed his outlook on life, which has inspired his music to head in a different direction.
"Since my accident I've been in the studio," Derulo told the Daily Star. "I probably got in too soon which wasn't the healthiest thing to do, but I have been so inspired by everything that's happened.
"The material has been coming out a little different as I realised what actually matters in life. It's a total eyeopener."
He added: "The world got to slow down for a second, which is also really cool, plus I got the chance to spend time with my family and loved ones, which matters the most.
"This is going to be a total reinvention and people will be really surprised. It's a total flip.
"I'm also trying to think of what to do with my look as I definitely want to change it up a little bit, maybe add some colour to my life."
Jason Derulo recently unveiled a remix of his hit 'It Girl', which features his girlfriend Jordin Sparks.
