Talking about the new material's influences, Lambert told the Daily Star: "It can't hurt me that the '90s are becoming trendy again.
"I went there because that's what inherently locked into my musical subconscious, as it's what I grew up with.
"This album borrows so much from my first pop influences. I was listening to George Michael, Michael Jackson, Queen – I know Queen aren't '90s, but that's when I got into them – and house music.
"There's a lot of house's darker atmospheres in the album too."

Speaking about his new single 'Never Close Our Eyes', the star revealed that the track is slightly more dance-oriented than its writer - Bruno Mars - is used to working with.
"'Never Close Our Eyes' is a great dance song. It's a little bit more dance than Bruno usually goes, so it'll be a fun surprise for people."
Lambert's 'Never Close Our Eyes' will be officially released in the UK on June 24.
