Boybands beat manbands in ticket sales

By
One Direction and The Wanted have been credited with reigniting the public's love of boybands.

Online ticket outlets have reported that searches and sales of tickets to boyband concerts are increasingly eclipsing the demand for manband gigs.

Despite the popularity and nostalgic demand of older male vocal groups such as Westlife and NKOTBSB, tickets for their shows are selling at 15% under face value on secondary ticketing sites.

Meanwhile, new acts like The Wanted, One Direction, Rizzle Kicks and JLS are experiencing over 100 ticket searches an hour on viagogo.

"Our data shows that music fans are putting age before experience and dumping manbands for boybands this year," said viagogo UK director Edward Parkinson.

"This may not be a good sign for bands like Westlife and McFly, but it's great news for their fans who can nab themselves a bargain ticket."

One Direction recently announced a string of UK and Ireland arena tour dates for February and March 2013.
