The singer revealed that he wants to launch himself Stateside so he can capitalise on the success of One Direction and other British acts who are dominating the American music charts.
"There's a big hype on British talent right now," Maynard told the Daily Star. "I was actually in America when One Direction went to number one and it was crazy to see, but I kept thinking this is a really good time for me.
"All eyes are on the UK. They are waiting for the next new British talent and I want to capitalise on that."
Speaking about his debut single 'Can't Say No' - which landed at number two on the UK midweek chart - the star insisted that he didn't want to come across as too pop.
"The main thing I didn't want was for it to be too poppy. In my head I wanted to be different, not follow what's happening. For me it was just, 'I hope people like it and accept it', even if they do think I'm American."
