Guitarist Bert Weedon has died at the age of 91.
His friend John Adrian confirmed that he died at his Beaconsfield home after struggling with illness for some time, BBC News reports.
Weedon created the guitar tutorial manual Play In A Day, which was reportedly used by Eric Clapton and Brian May, as well as Beatles John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison, among others.
Radio presenter Mike Read said: "He was the guy who showed you how to play a guitar. Everybody bought his Play In A Day book, it was a big deal."
His solo guitar hits included 'Guitar Boogie Shuffle', 'Apache' and 'Nashville Boogie' and he also worked with Cliff Richard, Tommy Steele, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and others.
Weedon was born in East Ham, London in 1920 and first started playing classical guitar at the age of 12.
He was made an OBE in 2001 for his services to music.
