Ellie Goulding tops one million single sales in US

Ellie Goulding has sold one million copies of her debut single 'Lights' in America.

The singer's first US release been awarded Platinum status in the US this week after being released in March last year.

Goulding has since embarked on an extensive tour across the States, which included a number of festival appearances and supporting Katy Perry on her 'Teenage Dreams' jaunt.

The 25-year-old has also performed Christmas carols on stage with Barack Obama and featured on several high-profile US television shows, including The Late Show with David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Saturday Night Live.

The star's debut album Lights was originally released in the UK in 2010, where it has since has achieved triple Platinum status. It spawned the hit singles 'Starry Eyed', 'The Writer' and 'Your Song'.

It was recently reported that Goulding will release her new album in October this year.
