Vampire Weekend want new album release this year

By
Vampire Weekend have revealed that they want their new album to be released by the end of 2012.

Singer Ezra Koenig said that the band have written and recorded "a ton of stuff" for the follow-up to 2010's Contra and hope to have it out later this year.

"It would be cool if it was [released] this year. I always want to release music as soon as possible, but more and more I'm realising it's something you almost have no control over," Koenig told Rolling Stone.

"We just never want to be in a position [where] when we put out something, we feel could've benefited from more time."

Vampire Weekend's second studio album Contra reached number one on the US Billboard 200 and number three on the UK album chart.
