The America's Best Dance Crew judge told The Hollywood Reporter that One Direction are "a breath of fresh air".
"I think you see five young people that are really enjoying the moment and sharing it with everyone," he said.
"I think they're feeding off the crowd and they're giving it right back to them, and it's a lot of fun when you see what's going on around them."
Chasez added that the 'What Makes You Beautiful' stars have "fun" songs, explaining: "I think everyone's kind of down right now. Everyone's talking about all the social issues in the world - it's nice to have a breath of fresh air, especially when it's young and refreshing."
The star also praised The Wanted, describing their single 'Glad You Came' as "a great record".
"When you hear that single, everybody knows it," he said. "It's catchy and when I first heard it I didn't even know it was a boyband. I just like the song, and I think that's what everybody loves about them - they put out a good song."
America's Best Dance Crew airs Wednesdays on MTV.
