The album experienced a 31% sales gain over the past week, due in particular to Mother's Day sales.

21 has so far spent 23 weeks at the top of the US album chart in total. It will hit RIAA diamond sales status if it passes the 10 million mark.

The LP was kept off the number one spot by Carrie Underwood, who spends a second week at the top with Blown Away, which sold 120,000 copies this week.

Adele's 21 recently became the fifth best-selling album in UK chart history, taking over Michael Jackson's classic Thriller in the process.

The singer-songwriter is reportedly planning to release a special edition of the album with brand new tracks in time for Christmas.
