Mumford & Sons have recorded a new track with Birdy for the Brave soundtrack.

The artists collaborated to provide a brand new folk song for the upcoming Kelly Macdonald-voiced Pixar project.

'Learn Me Right' is written, arranged and produced by Mumford & Sons, with Birdy providing vocals.

Frontman Marcus Mumford said of the track: "It's quite fun doing a song for a movie rather than for an album.

"We liked the idea of having an orchestra in the background and having a girl like Birdy sing - it's been quite liberating."

Birdy added: "I love it because it tells a story. Although it has a lot of emotion, it's also very upbeat and you want to dance to it, which is why it works so well."

Pixar's Katherine Safarian said in a statement: "'Learn Me Right' is an amazing song. I feel something every time I hear it.

"Mumford & Sons sketched out a piece that would do justice to the culminating moment of the movie, underscoring the emotion, heart and the lessons learned between mother and daughter.

"They really found that moment of truth in the story we were trying to tell and it takes the movie to a new level at the end."

'Brave' still

The Brave soundtrack will also include tracks recorded by Julie Fowlis, Billy Connolly and Emma Thompson, along with the score from Patrick Doyle.

It will be released on June 19, 2012.

Brave follows Merida (Macdonald), who is looking to change the path of her life instead of following her mother's wish to marry someone in their kingdom.

The animation opens at cinemas on June 22 in the US and August 17 in the UK.
