Screenwriter Chis Coghill, who has collaborated with the reformed band, claims that they have started working on new material ahead of their comeback shows later this year.
He told BBC News that the band "have at least three or four new tracks recorded", adding: "I'm mates with Mani and I know Ian [Brown] a bit."
Coghill is working on the forthcoming film Spike Island, which tells the story of a group of young teenagers sneaking into the famous 1990 concert and heavily features music from the group.
Describing the movie, the writer added: "Essentially, it's my love letter to the Stone Roses and being 16 years old in 1990 in Manchester. There's a little bit of me in all the boys.
"I never went to Spike Island," Coghill admitted. "I got let down with a ticket the day before, which is what happens to the lads in the film."
The Stone Roses kick off their string of comeback shows in Manchester on June 29, before playing T in the Park and V Festival as well as a number of European festivals.
