During the evening, Madonna performed her highly publicized mash-up of 'Express Yourself' with the similar sounding 'Born This Way' by Lady GaGa.

She appeared to make a small dig at her rival by shouting to the crowd: "She's not me!"

Madonna was later joined on stage by her son Rocco Ritchie, who came on as a backing dancer for one of her tracks.

The gig also included a routine where the singer smashed a glass window with a rifle before pointing it at the audience. She had previously garnered criticism from anti-gun groups for the use of the weapon.

Madonna also chose to promote her hopes for world peace during the gig and is quoted as saying: "If there is peace here in the Middle East, there can be peace in the whole world."

"I chose to start my world tour in Israel for a very specific and important reason," she added. "You can't be a fan of mine and not want peace in the world, we all bleed the same colour.

"If we can all rise above our egos and our titles and the names of our countries and our religions, and treat everyone around us with dignity and respect, then we are on the road to peace."

Madonna's tour continues in cities around Europe including London, Milan, Berlin and Paris. She will arrive in the US on August 28, with the tour concluding in Australia next year.
