The xx will release their new album, titled Coexist, on September 10.
Speaking to the NME, singer Romy Madley Croft said Coexist will demonstrate how the band have evolved since the release of their Mercury Award-winning debut in 2009.
She said: "[I hope] people enjoy it as a separate thing. The first album exists - we're not trying to make it again.
"We've just grown up, and although this isn't a 'grown up' album, we've evolved. I hope people enjoy it as a continuation, rather than us trying to make the first album again."
Little has been revealed about the new album, other than that it is influenced by "club music". Jamie xx, now a successful DJ and producer in his own right, will once again assume production duties.
The xx play the Primavera festival tonight (June 1), before undertaking a series of global live dates in the summer, culminating in a headline slot at Bestival 2012.
