The band's frontman Chris Martin likened himself and his bandmates to "four people who look like [Bieber's] grandparents".
Of the 'Boyfriend' star, Martin told Capital FM: "He's too handsome for us... We'd just look terrible next to that guy. He's good-looking, he's amazing."
During their set at the Capital FM Summertime Ball this weekend (June 9), the Coldplay singer asked the crowd before playing their euphoric hit 'Charlie Brown': "Are there any Beliebers out there?" Martin also joked to fans that they would only perform Bieber covers.
He went on to praise their most recent collaboration artist Rihanna, saying: "She was lovely - she was cool. We'd work with anyone who wanted to work with us."
Coldplay opened the concert on Saturday and were followed by other big names such as Rita Ora, Jessie J, Kelly Clarkson, Cheryl Cole, Usher and The Wanted.
