Amy Macdonald: 'I had no idea where new album would chart'

Amy Macdonald has revealed to Digital Spy that she is "chuffed" with the success of her new album.

The singer, whose latest effort Life in a Beautiful Light entered at number three on the midweek charts earlier this week, also admitted that she was initially "anxious" over the release.

She said: "I'm just so happy with the album and so chuffed that people seem to be buying it. I'm very grateful for the positive response it's had so far."

Asked if she was confident of its chances in the charts, she explained: "You have no idea. The music industry is so fickle - one day you can be top of the pops and the next day nobody cares.

"I know my label have put in a lot of work, so we were hopeful, but obviously you never know. When we heard it was number three, we breathed a huge sigh of relief!"

On whether she gets nervous ahead of putting out music, she confessed: "I never get nervous when it comes to performing, but when it comes to releasing an album, it makes me so anxious and I lose a lot of sleep. I'll be happy when this week is over!"

Life in a Beautiful Light is out now. Watch the music video for the lead single 'Slow It Down' below:
