The Grateful Dead's bassist Phil Lesh has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The 66-year-old founding member of the iconic rock group will undergo an operation in December, but has reassured fans that the prognosis is good. In a statement on his official website, Lesh revealed: "Since we’ve caught it very early, and it’s small and slow-growing, I fully expect to have a rapid and complete recovery."
The Grateful Dead formed in 1965 and amassed an army of fans known as 'Deadheads' with their unique sound of psychedelic rock. In 1995 the band split following vocalist Jerry Garcia's death from a heart attack. The remaining band members reunited in 2003 for an American tour.
