The Girls Aloud star recently revealed that she recorded a rap for her third studio album A Million Lights, but decided not to include the cut as it didn't fit with the record's overall sound.
However, Cole's manager will.i.am has since admitted that the track was supposed to be kept a secret.
"I can't believe she told people about that. It was supposed to be just for the hard drive," he told Capital FM.
"We were going through a lot, with drama - The X Factor - and 'the next factor' drama."
He added: "We did the song and she said, 'Put some rap in', and I was like, is that a question? 'Put some rap in'. When she talks a lot of the times it sounds like she's asking me questions.
"I was like, I don't think we should put it out, but it's fresh. Like, really, really, really dope."
Cole's third studio album A Million Lights reached number two on the UK chart on Sunday evening (June 24).
