Linkin Park beat Maroon 5 to top US Billboard album chart

Linkin Park have beaten Maroon 5 in this week's race for the US number one album.

The band's new record Living Things outsold their rivals by just 1,200 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan data.

The album sold 224,000 copies this week, just under the 241,000 debut week amount of their previous album A Thousand Suns.

Maroon 5's new album Overexposed matched its debut position for their 2010 album Hands All Over, but improved significantly from its first-week sales of 142,000. Their latest effort sold 222,000 units.

Justin Bieber falls two spots to three with Believe, dropping 69% in sales, while The Maybach Music Group compilation Self Made, V. 2 entered at four with 98,000 copies.

R Kelly's latest album Write Me Back debuted at five, with sales of 68,000 copies.

Linkin Park also beat Maroon 5 in the UK album chart last weekend.
