Greater Manchester Police confirmed in a statement today that the body of Christopher Brahney, 22, had been discovered.
"Police are satisfied that the body found in a canal in Salford this morning is that of missing 22-year-old Christopher Brahney," the statement read.
"Shortly before 9.35am this morning, Monday, 9 July 2012, police received a report of a body in the Manchester Ship Canal, near to Media City, Salford Quays.
"Christopher was last seen by friends at about 11.30pm on Friday 29 June 2012, when he was at the Stone Roses concert in Heaton Park, Manchester."
A post-mortem examination on Brahney's body will take place tomorrow (July 10).
A message posted on the Find Chris Brahney Facebook page by Francesca Tracey read: "The family would like to thank everyone for all the kind words, thoughts and prayers that you have sent our way.
"Thank you for all the support, it has given them immense strength and courage. Please respect the family's wishes and ensure that they are left alone during this difficult time."
The Stone Roses had publicly appealed for help after Brahney's disappearance.
