The soul singer, who rose to prominence after he came third in the first series of Fame Academy, said that he will tell his two children if they can't sing, rather than TV judges.
"I'm not going to wrap them up in cotton wool," he told the Daily Star.
"If they're no good, I'm going to say: 'You really can't sing'.
"It's better you shut it down before someone else does it for you."
Lemar will release his upcoming single 'Invincible' on August 12, the first to be lifted from his fifth studio album, which follows in September.
