Lady Antebellum star: 'Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney cutoff fair'

By
Lady Antebellum star Hillary Scott has defended Hard Rock Calling organisers' decision to cut off Bruce Springsteen's Hyde Park concert.

Sir Paul McCartney joined Springsteen for a medley of songs on Saturday (July 14), but the 29-song set was cut short to comply with the local council's curfew.

The decision has been widely criticised, including complaints from The E Street Band's own guitarist Little Steven Van Zandt.

"One of the great gigs ever in my opinion. But seriously, when did England become a police state?" Van Zandt tweeted after the show.

Lady Antebellum provided support for the Hard Rock Calling concert on a bill that also included John Fogerty and The Nightwatchman.

The 'Need You Now' band's lead singer Scott has said she was sad that Springsteen's set ended prematurely, but understands the reasoning.

"I'm sure there was definitely a reason," Scott said, reports The AP. "I hear that they had a very strict curfew in Hyde Park."

Hard Rock Calling organisers Live Nation have also defended adhering to the curfew.

Live Nation said in a statement: "It was unfortunate that the three-hour plus performance by Bruce Springsteen was stopped right at the very end but the curfew is laid down by the authorities in the interest of the public's health and safety.

"Road closures around Hyde Park are put in place at specific times to make sure everyone can exit the area in safety."

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has since clarified that 'health and safety' should not have been cited by Live Nation as an excuse to cut short the event.

Springsteen previously played Hard Rock Calling in 2009.
