The comedian was asked what he thought about current hit 'Wide Awake' by Howard Stern on his Sirius XM radio show after it was suggested the song deals with the breakdown of his and Perry's marriage.
"She's a good person, I've not nothing but love for her," Brand explained. "I was very proud of everything she did.
"She's a young woman dealing with the break-up of the relationship, which is understandable. It's a nice song."
The actor insisted that he has avoided speaking publicly about the breakdown of their marriage as he does not want to make his ex-wife "sad".
"She's younger than me. She's a young woman and she's beautiful and she's sensitive and I care about her deeply, I don't want to be too glib," he admitted. "She'll read it and she'll be sad and I don't want that."
Brand and Perry were officially granted a divorce earlier this week, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of their separation.
