The rapper confessed that he used to be intent on releasing big hits, but discovered his appetite to top the charts was becoming a weakness.
Asked if he is affected by chart positions, Wiley told Digital Spy: "I don't crave it, but I just have to do it because I have the ability to.
"I used to crave and chase it and that's where I went wrong. You're meant to relax and just do it."
He added: "The aim is to headline The O2 - and I've worked with enough stars to fill out the arena for an event - but I'd like to get in there myself."
However, the star insisted that he doesn't feel pressure when it comes to selling records, saying: "No, not anymore. I've been doing this for too long."
Wiley will release his new single 'Heatwave' in the UK on July 29.
