The 2nd Law, which features the official Olympics single 'Survival', was originally scheduled to be released on September 17.
However, the band have now pushed the release date of their latest record back to October 1.
They also confirmed that 'Madness' will be released on August 20 as the band's first official single from The 2nd Law.
Speaking of the new LP, frontman Matt Bellamy said: "We went to see Skrillex in Camden around October. We went, 'F**k, it's so heavy', loved it.
"It was like a full metal gig, they had circles of death, people were moshing, I hadn't seen a reaction like that to electronic music before. We took inspiration and came up with [album track] 'The 2nd Law: Unsustainable'.
"We created something that was dubsteppy but we wanted to see if we could do it with real instruments. We wanted to ask, 'Can rock bands compete with what these guys are doing?'"
Muse recently unveiled the full tracklisting for The 2nd Law and announced a UK headline tour for October.
