The singer recently announced that she has scrapped her heavily delayed Jumping Trains LP in favour of a completely new album.
She unveiled the new record's lead single 'Demonstrate', produced by Noah "40" Shebib, last month. It followed her version of Drake's 'Marvin's Room', which she released last June.
"With the response that I got from 'Marvin's Room', it kind of gave me the OK to venture more into the territory that I wanted to go already," JoJo told Billboard.
"I wanted to do something with a little bit of a twist. And I just feel like right now, the climate is perfect for me to be myself. Artists like Frank Ocean and Drake have really kind of inspired me to be more comfortable, to be who I am.
Jumping Trains was originally announced in 2007, but its release was hit by label problems, resulting in many of its tracks leaking.
40 is now heading production of the new album, which won't feature her 2011 single 'Disaster'. Da Internz (Rihanna) and Kadis & Sean have also worked on her new material.
A music video for 'Demonstrate' will be filmed in the next few weeks ahead of the song's August 28 release. Listen to the track below:
